Master Instructor Sifu Whiting

Sifu Whiting

Sifu Whiting is the master instructor and founder of Flowing Waters Academy. He has trained students in the arts of Shaolin Kung Fu and Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan and has over 40 years of martial arts experience.

Sifu Whiting started studying Martial Arts at the age of 10 years old in the style of Uechi Ryu Karate at Matson Academy in Scituate, MA. He followed one of their instructors, Sensei MacIsaac, to Marshfield, MA when his instructor opened his own studio (dojo) and from there, achieved the rank of 3rd degree black belt in the style of Uechi Ryu Karate. Sensei MacIsaac later switched his focus to teaching Shaolin Kung Fu, having learned Shaolin Kung Fu in Boston, MA for many years.

Sensei MacIsaac, now a Sifu, learned over 300 different forms from a variety of Shaolin Martial Arts styles, practicing for at least 3 hours non-stop to complete all 300 forms. He found that a lot of the forms exhibited very similar movements and thus separated out forms that he felt gave the most variety of movements from each of the styles he had studied and developed his own Shaolin Kung Fu style, which he taught to Sifu Whiting. This variety of different moves created an ultimate style with a combination of elbows and knees, kicks and punches, and aerial attacks along with grappling, floor fighting techniques, and Chin Na joint locks.

This new style taught self-defense movements for specific attacks and adaptability to various situations. This is the style that is practiced today at Flowing Waters Academy. Along with Shaolin Kung Fu, Sifu Whiting also learned and mastered the art of Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan. He studied this art with a number of different instructors that included:

Sifu Whiting also has extensive knowledge of oriental healing therapies through studying with Sifu Tom Tam and Dr. Ping C. Chan for about 25 years.
