“With knowledge comes great responsibility.”

What We Teach

Flowing Waters Academy teaches the arts of Shaolin style Kung Fu and Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan. We also provide extensive teaching in Chi Gong (both internal and external). Private and group classes are available for students who would like training in the arts offered at Flowing Waters Academy.

Principles of Flowing Waters Academy

Flowing Waters Academy teaches the art of Shaolin Kung Fu, Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan, and Chi Gong with these core principles: Self-Discipline, Self-Control, Self-Confidence, and Self-Defense. These principles are the following:

Self-Discipline

It is the act upon doing something without the need of being asked or told. Flowing Waters Academy encourages its students to exhibit self discipline both during training in the arts and in everyday life. This gives the student a sense of their own accomplishment that will make them strive for greater success.

Self-Control

It is the act of holding back harmful actions, physically and verbally, using your mind and not your muscle (think before you do) to alleviate bad situations and taking charge of your actions for ultimately you will be responsible for your actions. It is understanding your own limitations, not allowing yourself to get frustrated right way when you are not able to do something that you are learning and instead give what you are learning time to be able to accomplish it.

When one gets frustrated at oneself this only creates tension and stress in the body, making it even harder to be able to understand the art. Flowing Waters Academy encourages students to think like water, relax, and go with the flow.

Self-Confidence

It is the act of being able to rise to the occasion when problems arise and to handle the situation in calm, thought out manor to the best of your ability. Self-confidence also gives the student an inner trust that they not only have the knowledge necessary to protect themselves from harm in any given situation, but also train their awareness to avoid harmful situations.

Self-confidence allows one to be sure of oneself enough to be able to do things with a sense of completion, overcoming any fears preventing them from completing any set task. Thus, the student will be encouraged to be more outgoing and independent, without previous fears holding them back.

Self-Defense

It is being able to both physically and mentally protect oneself from harm. This teaches the student to have the knowledge to avoid certain situations that would be deemed unbeneficial for the student. The idea of “learning the art of fighting without fighting” from the late Bruce Lee’s Enter the Dragon is the ability to outsmart your opponent to diffuse a situation and avoid harm.
